Barnstondale Lodge

Day 3

Our third and final day at Barnstondale! All of the children slept through the night AGAIN; they must have been tired! After another hearty breakfast 🥓 🍳, it was onto packing which, as you can imagine, was quite the ordeal! We think we’ve brought everything back! It wasn’t quite time for home yet though as we still had activities to take part in. The groups completed the activity that they hadn’t done yesterday with ‘Nightline’ also making an appearance. It’s been amazing to see the children trying new things and working together outside of the classroom. 🤩 The last supper (chicken tikka baguettes) and one last check later and it was time say goodbye to Barnstondale! 👋 We hope the children have enjoyed this experience, made plenty of memories will be telling you about it tonight and beyond. Thank you so much for allowing your children this opportunity!

Day 2

Tuesday! Everyone slept through the night (which is nothing short of a miracle) and we were up and at ‘em at about half seven. We had a delicious breakfast of cereal, toast, sausage, bacon, hash browns, egg and beans! 🥓🍳 Fuelled for the day, each group set off on their adventures. Today’s activities were shooting, rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering and river crossing with each group completing three or four of the activities. 🧗‍♀️ This saw a lot of the children conquer their fears of heights, try something new and work with people who they wouldn’t normally work with!

After all of that, we had some free time so it was onto the adventure playground along with a quick shower and room tidy before tea. The chicken tikka went down a treat! 😋 Our main evening activity was an orienteering style activity in the woods. Our winners were Paul and Ella who will receive a egg-cellent prize! 🍫 We also managed to sneak in a cheeky game of hide and seek in the (going) dark! 👀 Into our pyjamas we got ready for the rest of the film, of course with toast and hot chocolate in The Gryffindor Common Room! Aaaaaand breathe! We can’t believe we’re coming home tomorrow; the general consensus is that we’d stay all week if we could! See you tomorrow!

Day 1

Welcome to Barnstondale! As soon as we arrived, we dropped off our bags and got into our groups. Here they are:

Group 1 (The Honey Badgers): Aimee, Nayah, Isla, Darcy, Riley, Luka, Josh W, Lucas, Freddie, William (with Mr Taylor) 🍯 🦡

Group 2 (The Badgers): Ella, Isaac, Evie, Daniel, Austin, Josh R, Alex, Jamie, Luca, Tommy B (with Mrs Anderson) 🦡

Group 3 (The Panthers): Paul, Elliott, Florence, Annabelle, Harry, Oliver, Tommy C, Ethan, Jacob (with Miss Hampson) (There’s no panther emoji! 😂)

For our first activity, each group set about learning some survival skills. We learnt how to build a shelter using tarpaulin, rope and what we had around us. ⛺️ Next, each child used a flint and steel to light a fire! 🔥 After lunch and an adventure playground break, we went into survival mode and embarked on a secret mission… 🕵️‍♀️The mission was to retrieve our survival equipment from the woods covertly. Then, we had to find a ‘missing person’ and set up camp using our skills from the morning in order to keep him safe. First team back won! The Panthers took the victory, with The Honey Badgers coming second and The Badgers came in third!

Back to the cabin to find out our rooms and have a shower. 🚿  After a nutritious tea, it was back into the woods for a good old-fashioned game of hide and seek in the (going) dark! Our final activity was toasting marshmallows around the campfire with banging tunes on! 🎶 Finally, for our weary adventurers, it was up into what has been named as ‘The Gryffindor Common Room’ for the start of a film with supper, before bed! What a day! A bit of bad news though, there is no tuck shop anymore so we’ll be bringing our £7s back! 😫 Let’s see what tomorrow brings…
