In geography, we’ve been using the four points of the compass to direct our friend to find a lollystick we had hidden. We had to remember to orientate our compasses to make sure north was always pointing towards the barked area.
We will be writing instructions in English this week. We learned a feature of instructions is to be clear and concise. We had to give our partner clear, simple instructions to draw a picture.
To finish our art unit of work, we evaluated our work and a peer’s work. Then, we made a collaborative piece of artwork by piecing together our final pieces.
Here we are with our final pieces of 3D abstract art alongside our original map. We’ve done a brilliant job!
We continued to practise playing along to Music in My Soul.
We explored a range of media in art to help us decide what we will use for our final pieces next week.
We have written some affirmations in PSHE
We have been poets this week! We’ve used the book The Colour Monster for this unit of work. We did lots of work about the emotions in the story before writing poems about one of the emotions. Here, we are having a play around with the adjective and verb word banks we’ve created to see which emotion we will choose to write about.
We developed our artwork skills this week by printing an abstract map. We used oil pastels to create a base piece then printed a section of our original map using the base piece.
In music, we’ve been learning to play along to the song Music in My Soul.
We have been learning about microhabitats in science. We went on our playground and field to look for living things in microhabitats. We looked under logs, under leaves, under rocks, inside cracks in logs and many other spaces.
We used Google Maps and Apple Maps to recreate a map of our local area. We have to make sure we put everything in the correct place based on the main roads around school.
We have started our code.org unit. We’ve been working on sequencing algorithms.
In geography, we made maps of the playground. We had to make sure we were placing the features of the playground in the correct place on our map. After we’d created our maps, we used them to locate ‘hidden treasure’ on the playground.
In art, we recreated a part of our map from last week as a stained glass window. We used a range of resources to create an abstract piece of work.
We developed our throwing skills this week in PE. We had a handball goal as a target to score a goal.
We have been using base 10 in our maths lessons throughout our place value unit. We’re getting very good at partitioning numbers in different ways.
We went outside to identify things that are alive, things that are dead and things that have never been alive in science.
In geography, we used an atlas to locate Leigh. We learned the two cities closest to Leigh are Manchester and Liverpool.
We have been so amazing we’ve filled our star jar already 🤩 we played stuck in the mud outside.
We’ve been working on throwing and catching skills in PE this half term. We will be building our skills each week to play handball.
In art, we will be using maps to create a range of abstract pieces of artwork. For the first lesson, we drew a map. Our map could be of anything - real or imaginary.
We made time capsules on our first day. We measured ourselves, made a handprint, completed an ‘all about me’ sheet and put a photograph of ourselves inside. We can’t wait to open them at the end of Year 2 to see how much we’ve grown!
