  • Year Five's rise to the challenge!

    Tue 26 Jun 2018

A team of four Year Five pupils acquitted themselves wonderfully at a Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation competition held this week at Golborne High School, scoring an excellent 61 out of 70. Our talented team was set a series of testing grammar challenges and performed brilliantly against five other LOGOS (Lowton and Golborne Schools) squads.

The team then went on to take part in a Maths Reasoning taster session with Mr Peter Dickinson at Lowton St Mary’s. A day of hard work and tremendous fun. Very well done to Sam, Thomas, Leila and Sarah!

  • Democracy in action at Gilded Hollins

    Tue 19 Jun 2018

As part of our commitment to British Values (and to coincide with the local elections) we held a Democracy event in school. Mrs Burns, Miss Whittaker and Mr Rushton made presentations at a whole school assembly urging the children to vote on their preferred scheme. The choices were: the Daily Mile track, a new sound system in the hall, a new stage, and a new library. We set up the actual polling booth used on election days and each pupil was given a ballot slip. The convincing winner was the Daily Mile track. This is now installed.

  • Our Daily Mile track

    Tue 19 Jun 2018

As part of our ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of everyone connected with Gilded Hollins we have now installed a Daily Mile track on the school field. The area is notoriously poor to drain, but we hope that laying half a mile of rubber matting will allow us to keep on running the whole year. Twice around the track will clock up your daily quota! The children already love the track with many using it during break and lunchtimes. We were also lucky enough to receive a Brighter Borough donation of £500 from our local Councillors (Anderson, O'Brien and Rigby) towards the cost, so a big thank you to them.

  • School Games Day 2018

    Fri 15 Jun 2018

School Games Day was held on Friday with fun had by all.

Key Stage 1’s events took place in the morning with all the children competing in all the events. In the afternoon, it was the turn of Key Stage 2. Here, the children competed in various events including a whole class long distance run.

A special thank you to all the parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles who came to cheer on the competitors as well as those who joined in with the parent’s races. Overall, the winning team was the GREEN team. Well done!

  • PJ Day 8th June 2018

    Mon 11 Jun 2018
We held a charity PJ day in school on Friday June 8th and raised an amazing £160 for Ronald McDonald House. The House provides somewhere for parents to stay while their child is being treated in hospital. A fun-filled fundraiser was had by all! Many thanks to everyone who donated to this very worthy cause.
