DateOpposition VenueScore Match Report by Jacob W (c)
3/3/22Lowton WestGHS5-2 (W)It was a cold and rainy Thursday afternoon and the conditions weren't great. The pitch was slippery and this resulted in many bleeding elbows and knees but we quickly adapted to the conditions. We scored through some tight play in front of goal (Jacob). Next, it was Lowton West's turn who responded with a penalty - an even scoreline. Before half time, we managed to score two more goals (Luca and Rylan). A quick teamtalk and we were back on! Thanks to some great teamplay, we put a ball into the box for Tommy to score a great goal. We scored our fifth and final goal with a well-taken long distance shot from Louie. A well-earned 5-2 victory where everyone played their part!

21/4/22Leigh St. ThomasGS

Today's fixture was against Leigh St. Thomas. It was generally quite a comfortable win for us. At times, we had to get back for some desperate defending but then when we had the ball, in attack, we looked really dangerous. We scored first with a very good, close range volley from Luca. Our next goal came from some brilliant play down the wing and a clever left footed shot into the bottom corner from Freddie. Our third and final goal was a long range shot that beat the keeper from Jacob. The game ended 3-0 and overall, our attitude was brilliant!

19/5/22St. Joseph'sGHS

The first half of the game was really tough. The opposition were strong and they pressed whenever we had the ball but through some well-worked play, we scored through a left footed finish off the post, into the bottom corner. Before that, we were defending brilliantly but they still had a number of efforts on goal. 1-0 at half time! Into the second half: at the very beginning, we made an absolutely cracking off-the-line clearance by Roby which kept us in the game. From there, it was all us. 2-1 after a very well worked goal from Cara and then 3-1: Luca scored from a brilliant cross. 4-1, Luca scored again after pressing the ball and a very good volley. Unluckily, we conceded a late penalty that they scored but the game finished 4-2!

23/6/22Sacred Heart LeighGHS

On Thursday, we played Sacred Heart in what turned out to be an easy win. We played really well, defended brilliantly and we were really calm when getting the ball away or taking it up the pitch in attack. In attack, we were ruthless; we had a number of efforts and were always looking for a gal to move into. We moved the ball around really well and we’re rewa4ded with 7 goals from Jacob x4, Luca x2 and Cara x1. Unfortunately, we conceded two goals where we switched off early in the second half of the game! #GoGilded

DateOppositionVenueScoreMatch Report by Laken P and Roby A (c)
11/2/22Lowton St. Mary'sH28-8 (W)A fiery game with a 28-8 scoreline in our favour was played last Friday. We had a good defensive line leading to only two tries conceded whilst scoring six tries of our own: Laken, Riley, Roby x2 and Frankie x2. Alexander and Michael kicked conversions. Player of the Match went to Riley for his incredible work rate and brilliant solo runs. Everybody deserved this win and we are looking forward to the next game!
4/3/22Sacred HeartH

A very good result against Sacred Heart with a 62-8 scoreline in our favour. Tries were scored by Roby, Austin, Alexander (x2), Frankie (x2), Oliver (x3), Amelia, Michael, Laken and Roby (x2). Our goalkicking needs work though with only three of those tries being converted. Player of the match was Luca for running way beyond his size and throwing himself into tackles. A good game, ready for the next!

XII ApostlesA

Gilded Hollins travelled away for the first time this season to XII Apostles. Despite accidently starting the game with 10 players, Gilded got into their rhythm and scored two early tries through Laken and Roby. We defended our own line as though our lives depended on it and made it to half time, leading 10-0. In the second half, we maintained our solid defence and ran in a further four tries including a great, solo effort from Roby. Rylan made an impressive debut against his old school which was noted by both captains. On to the next one!

All SaintsA

Another game without conceding! Gilded ran in 9 tries in a comfortable win over All Saints. In spells, we, again, defended our own line well and were determined not to let the opposition score. Caleb and Austin in particular really stood up and were counted in this game where, at one point, all of our Year 6s were on the substitutes bench. Michael claimed the player of the match award this week for strong defence and elusive which resulted in a couple of tries!

Newton Westpark

Gilded showed great attitude and professionalism to overcome an inexperienced Newton Westpark side at home. The focus in training had been working as a team and doing little things right in defence and that was on show today, even if goalkicking needs working on. For the third successive game, Gilded didn't concede a point and ran in a number of tries. Amelia was the player of the match and strong running and determination to break the line!
1/4/22Bedford HallA

After the game, Bedford Hall's teacher said that she couldn't believe how physically but fairly we played the game and that says it all. Despite missing a few players, Gilded managed a 54-12 victory. Our Year 5s stepped up and took charge in the absence of some of our more experienced players which bodes well for next year! Alexander stood out for Gilded with his amazing line speed, solid defence and strong runs to make yards up the field. With that, we're into the semi finals with one league game left to play!
13/5//22St. John'sH

Today, we came up against our most difficult opponent this season: St. John's. We weren't at our best and had a few players missing through injury but we eventually got the job done to make it 7 wins from 7 games and finish top of the league table. Michael and Amelia particularly stepped up; their work rate in attack and defence was phenominal. The example that they set led the team to victory but we'll need to improve before the semi final against either Bedford Hall or XII Apostles!
29/4/22Semi FinalH

The semi final! We played 4th place Bedford Hall Methodist in this game for a spot in the final. Arguably, we pulled out our best performance in the first half, leading 30-0 at the break! We defended aggressively, moved the ball well and, for once, our goal kicking was accurate! We got sloppy in the second half and conceded two tries through poor defence: something to work on for the final! Despite this, we still scored 3 converted tries of our own to come out comfortable winners! Onto the big one next week!

We did it!!!
