Barnstondale Lodge

Day 3

Final day! We were up early again but the weather was unfortunately wet and windy which meant we were onto Plan B of indoor sport along with generally getting ourselves ready to head home. Breakfast consisted of bacon, beans and toast, setting us up well for the day!

We had to vacate our rooms by 10.00am so it was all action packing up our belongings and tidying our rooms. On the whole, the children did a great job of this aside from the odd tricky sleeping bag, leaving the rooms very clean! The children were also allowed time to buy souvenirs from the shop during this time, using our £5 spending money from home. It was bouncy balls, wristbands and pencils galore!

Our sport today was handball. There was fierce competition between the boys and girls with some great skills on display. Isla C received a 'Spirit of the Games' wristband for Honesty, for trying really hard with her footwork to stick to the rules!

Lunch today was naan bread pizza; obviously, a popular meal! The winners of the quiz and tidy bedroom competition were also announced with prizes being awarded as with Monday's orienteering. Sadly, it was then time to leave Barnstondale Lodge and head back to Gilded Hollins after an amazing 3 days!

Day 2

We were up bright and early for breakfast on Tuesday, ready for a day full of fun! Our breakfast was amazing: cereal, toast, fruit, yoghurt and pain au chocolat! Unfortunately, due to bad weather, we were unable to go kayaking on the recommendation of the centre staff! However, we still made the most of things, completing other activities around the site including more team building, night line and camp craft, in the same groups as yesterday.

After a packed lunch, we headed out to a freezing West Kirkby to complete our walk as a class. There was plenty of determination on show with the wind and cold against us! We also collected some shells to use back in class for some artwork after the Easter holidays, treating ourselves to a hot chocolate too, at the halfway point! In total we walked around 5km during the afternoon which was a great effort considering the weather, with no fuss at all!

We returned to Barnstondale at around 4.00 and had some free time to shower and get ready for room inspection! Some of the rooms haven’t been great so far but tonight was a definite improvement. Tea was a choice between chicken/vegetable curry and sausage and mash, both of which were delicious! Tonight’s activities consisted of time on the adventure playground and indoor sports where we played kick cricket and dodgeball.

Finally, we visited the tuck shop to stock for the film tonight where the children are now chilling out after another hectic day.

Our ‘Spirit of the Games’ winners today were Noah (Respect), Isobel (Passion) and Connor (Self-belief) who all displayed great sporting values on day 2.

Day 1

We arrived at Barnstondale safely, just after 10.00am. The children found out their rooms and groups and we were immediately into our day’s activities.

Today’s groups were as follows:

Group 1 (Mr T) - Liam, Joe, Ethan, Alfie, Noah, Marie, Lucy, Phoebe B, Phoebe W, Isabella, Maddie.

Group 2 (Mrs Redding) - Seth, Ben, Jacob, Darcey, Emma, Isobel, Katy, Connor, Poppy B, Alyssa.

Group 3 (Mrs Thompson and Mrs Mair) - Oliver, Max, Mia, Blake, Isla C, Isla H, Preet, Toby.

Each group took part in various activities including rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering, team building and archery. All of the children had great fun! After that, the children were given free time on the adventure playground and to have a shower/tidy their rooms ready for room inspection! (Prizes will be given for the tidiest room!)

The choice of tea tonight was chicken nuggets and chips or sausage roll and chips which, as you can imagine, the children thoroughly enjoyed! Next up, we were off into the woods for our country themed orienteering activity! Our winners were Oliver and Marie in a close run contest, where our torches and teamwork skills were put to good use! The last of our outdoor activities was to enjoy smores and songs around the campfire before heading into the lounge area for a quiz! Prizes were on offer again, for the winning team/teams that beat the adults taking part. Results will be announced tomorrow.

Our ‘Spirit of the Games’ winners today were Liam (Teamwork), Phoebe B (Respect), Marie (Self-belief), Seth (Self-belief), Poppy B (Determination), Ben (Teamwork), Max (Teamwork) and Preet (Determination) who all displayed great sporting values on the first day.
