Spirit of the Games Values
At Gilded Hollins, we do not award 'Player of the Match'. Instead, we award 'Spirit of the Games'. This is to ensure children identify what the purpose of school sport is really about, with a focus on personal excellence through competition, experience and attitude.
It is the team captain's responsibility to identify when a player exhibits these core values, nominating them to Miss Whittaker. The Team Captain will then personally award their player with a Spirit of The Games Wristband in assembly and their name will be placed on the Hall of Fame PE Noticeboard in the KS2 corridor.

Our High 5 Team train every Wednesday and have worked hard to get where they have.
They had their first taste of success when winning the LOGOS Schools' High 5 Tournament with impeccable results: they didn't concede a single goal in any of their 8 matches!
They then went on to the Wigan finals and again, won every one of their matches.
In July, they represented the Wigan Borough in the Greater Manchester Finals. We had a bad start and fluffed the first couple of matches by only a couple of goals (Our first match was against the eventual Cup Winners!)
It was then that Miss Whittaker got out her good luck charms and boy did they do the trick! We went on to win the remaining 6 games and played with so much passion, determination and self-belief that we were eventually crowned the Greater Manchester Plate Winners. What an incredible achievement! We are all so proud!
Our 2016 Girls' Cricket team have gone from strength to strength!
In May, they won the LOGOS schools Girls' Cricket Tournament and qualified to represent their borough.
In June, they played at Orrell CC in the Wigan District Finals Day and won all their matches. Unfortunately, torrential rain caused the tournament to be called off during the final, which seemed to be in our favour. Nonetheless, their performance was strong enough to be invited to represent Wigan at the Lancashire County Finals in July!
They went on to win 3 of their 4 matches in the group stages and got a place in the quarter finals as strongest runner up.
They won the quarter finals by 56 runs and went through to the semi-finals where they continued their excellent performance and won by 34 runs. They faced a tough opposition in the final and unfortunately missed out by 35 runs. Nonetheless, the second best team in the whole of Lancashire is pretty good going! Every single girl proved on the day why they deserve their place and contributed to the team's overall success with plenty of wickets, maidens and 6s. Our bowling was consistently strong throughout.
Well done girls; a HUGE achievement!
