Our thoughts

I love being a School Councillor because I like listening to all the children from other classes.  I also like being able to say things as well.

It is good fun being a School Councillor.

Year 1

At School Council meetings, we talk about a lot about what everybody in our school would like to do.

Sometimes we talk about how we can improve our playground outside.  I would like to be able to play golf at playtime.

I like being a School Councillor because it gives you the chance to make decisions about our school and to tell everybody your ideas.

I would like to have puppets to play with in class when it is wet play.

I like being a School Councillor because it means that you are able to talk about a lot of things before anybody else knows them.

I like being a School Councillor because we talk about fun stuff, such as what we could do in class when it is wet playtime.

I have had lots of ideas since I became a School Councillor that I have been able to tell everybody about.

I would like to have animals in school and I would like all our lessons to be games because that would make learning fun.

These are the things that I have suggested at School Council meetings: -

  • A table in every class for all the naughty children
  • A fountain where all the stones are
  • A canopy in KS2 playground to protect all the children when it is raining
  • Monitors in classes so that all the children in class get a chance to do things like, taking the register and jobs to help the class teacher
  • More french and also more art because when we discussed it we found out that some classes don’t do any art at all
  • Reading groups at playtime and lunchtime

I really like being a School Councillor because it gives you the opportunity to talk about good ideas for our school

I enjoy being a School Councillor because I like listening to new ideas.

I want to make our school a very happy place for all the children who come here and also for the teachers.

I like being a School Councillor because it gives me the opportunity to make our school a better place to learn in.

If you are chosen to be a School Councillor, it means that your teacher thinks that you have the ability to put your ideas forward.  Anybody in school can tell us what they want us to say, but it is up to us to say it in a meeting.

We have to wear a School Council badge, so that everybody knows who we are.  I love wearing my badge.

I like being a School Councillor because I love the idea that I have helped to make our school a better place.

We discuss all sorts of things at meetings and we talk about what we would like to buy to improve our playtimes.

It is fun being a School Councillor and I enjoy meeting up with all the other School Councillors and listening to new ideas from their classes as well.

I think that Being a School Councillor is brilliant because we can make good changes that the teachers might not know about.

Some of the equipment in the playground, like the stilts, are broken and we are able to make decisions to throw them away and then talk about what we would like instead.

I like being able to help to make our school better for all the children because sometimes teachers don’t know what children want or like most.  If you are a School Councillor, it gives you the chance to tell everybody what the pupils want.  Sometimes teachers choose things that children don’t like and that is a waste of money.

If you are a School Councillor, it means that teachers listen to what you say.

I really enjoy being a School Councillor.

I like being able to listen to other people’s ideas and thoughts about how we can change our school and make it a better place to come to.

I also love how I can come to meetings and have a discussion with other pupils from different classes about things that haven’t occurred to me.

It is good to hear what other classes think about things and we are using suggestion boxes, so that the children who aren’t councillors can share their ideas as well.

This is my experience of being a School Councillor: -

I think that being a School Councillor can be hard work at times.  It is also easy as well because sometimes you can just sit and listen to the other School Councillors ideas.

Sometimes we don’t all agree and then we have to discuss it, talk through the idea and explain our reasons.  If ideas that I don’t like are chosen, then it is important that I put my ideas forward so that I know that we have all talked it through properly.

Overall I think that being a School Councillor is a brilliant opportunity and a great job!
